Rapper Lady Sovereign Rounds out the Gwen Stefani Bill

Lady Sovereign is the opening act for The Sweet Escape tour with Gwen Stefani and Akon coming to the Qwest Center June 4th.

Lady Sovereign is a British rapper known for her street style and in your face attitude.  She emerged on the rap scene in 2003 with a song called "The Battle," which was a freestyle rap battle of males vs. females.  Sovereign released several underground Cd's and gained huge support in the UK.  Sovereign got a big break in 2004 when she was signed to the notorious rap label Def Jam by legendary rapper Jay-Z.  She released her debut album in the United States titled Public Warning in 2006.

Singer Akon Will Rock the Qwest Center

Grammy Award winning rapper and singer Akon will be Gwen Stefani's opening act on June 4 at the Qwest Center in Omaha.

Akon is expected to draw a large crowd due in part to his slew of recent hit singles that have dominated radio airplay in the last 3 years.  Akon's sound is a mixture of R&B, rap, and reggae.  He sings with a West African style but his music is still heavily influenced by American hip hop.

Akon was born in St. Louis but grew up in Senegal in West Africa.  His family later moved to Jersey City where Akon ran into trouble with the law.  His first hit single in 2004, titled "Locked Up," is about the three years he spent in prison for armed robbery and drug distribution charges.  Akon has released 2 albums to date, 2004's Trouble, and 2006's Konvicted.

Qwest Center Hosts Gwen Stefani in June

Gwen Stefani will head to the Qwest Center on June 4th to play a show with supporting acts Akon, and British rapper Lady Sovereign.

Stefani has been in the music industry since 1992 beginning as the lead singer in the ska/rock band No Doubt.  She had huge success with No Doubt's album Tragic Kingdom that sold over 15 million copies worldwide. 

She began her solo career in 2004 with the release of her album LOVE. ANGEL. MUSIC. BABY which saw a transition from the ska sound with her band to a more 80's pop sound.  Her latest release The Sweet Escape is more focused on a dance music theme.

Look for her performance to include her famous backup dancers the Harajuku Girls and a large wardrobe that Stefani will sport showing off her unique fashion sense.
