Great concerts coming to Qwest in March

March will be an interesting month for concerts at the Qwest Center in Omaha.

The concert docket opens Friday, March 7 when Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood bring their "Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride" tour to town. Urban will work the audience with his good looks and abundant musical chops, and look for him to play a variety of gutiars as he pours through some of his best songs.

Urban wil be joined by Underwood, the former American Idol champion who has put out two tremendously-successful CD's, including her latest called "Carinval Ride." Reviews of recent concerts have been very good, so expect a great show when Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood perform at the Qwest Center on Friday, March 7.

The following Friday, one of the legends of rock will get people on their feet at the Qwest Center as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform on Friday, March 14.

"The Boss" has evolved into one of the great singer-songerwriters of all time, and his live shows have been legendary not only for their length, but for the amount of energy poured out by Springsteen and his band. It will be a walk down memory line with classics such as "Born To Run" and "Glory Days," and look for Springsteen to sprinkle in some newer material like "Radio Nowhere" on this tour. Make sure the babysitter can stay late, because you're in for a long, wonderful journey when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hit the Qwest Center on Friday, March 14.

Closing out the month will be one of the more entertaining and colorful trios in the entertainment industry. Blue Man Group brings their entertaining, high-energy percussion show to the Qwest Center on Sunday, March 30.

The traveling ensemble's "How To Be A Megastar Tour 2.1" program is a combination of percussive precision and get-on-your-feet raw energy that will have fans standing, jumping and rocking like never before. Backed by an eight-piece band, the bright blue-faced threesome will mix music, comedy and energy into what will be a lot of fun and well worth the price of admission for Blue Man Group's performance at the Qwest Center on Sunday, March 30.

Matchbox Twenty, Morissette rock Qwest

Fans attending Tuesday's Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette concert at the Qwest Center were treated to a vast array of classic 90's rock and some new tunes as both acts kept fans on their feet throughout the evening.

After Mute Math's impressive opening set, Morissette took the stage and belted out many of her crowd-pleasing hits, including "You Learn" and the anger-release anthem "You Oughta Know" that proved to be the sing-along song of the night.

Morissette opened her part of the show with "Uninvited" and continued belting out some of her best stuff throughout an hour-long set, adding such songs as "Ironic" and "Hand In My Pocket." She worked the stage very well and her long, dark hair was on full display as she gyrated her head around throughout the night.

The main act of the night, though, was Matchbox Twenty, and lead singer Rob Thomas led fans on a superb assault of some of their best stuff, keeping the crowd of over 8,000 on their feet throughout the night.

Songs like "Real World" and "3 A.M." proved to be crowd favorites, and they featured some tunes off their latest album, "Exile On Mainstream." They opened the set with their most recent single, "How Far We've Come" and the show crescendoed from that point on.

Concert fans enjoyed this show, and there will be two more fantastic shows coming to the Qwest Center in the coming weeks.

Great concerts coming to Omaha

The next three weeks will see several outstanding concerts coming to the Qwest Center, highlighted by a visit from "The Boss" and his band.

Tuesday night, Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette will hit the stage, with Mute Math serving as the opening act. Morissette is well known for her classic "You Oughta Know" and "You Learn" and will put on an energy-fueled show. Matchbox Twenty ready to rock Omaha

The Qwest Center will rock on Tuesday, Feb. 26, when Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette take the stage.

Morissette puts on an active show, roaming every inch of the stage as she belts out some of her best tunes, including "Hand In My Pocket" and "You Oughta Know." She incorporates some great storytelling and humor into her show, which will be a great complement to the night's headlining act.

Matchbox Twenty has made a name for themselves over the past decade with a ton of radio-friendly tunes that have helped accelerate their rise in the music world. With lead singer Rob Thomas leading the way, songs like "How Far We've Come," "3 a.m.," and "Real World" are concert staples that will have the crowd buzzing.

The concert season starts to pick up momentum at Qwest Center Omaha, and a number of great concerts are on the docket in the next few weeks.

Creighton Bluejays vs Missouri State Bears

The Creighton Bluejays will take on the Missouri State Bears tonight at the Qwest Center in an important game for the Jays to show they belong at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference.  Currently Creighton is tied for fourth in the MVC. 

Creighton is returning home after two tough losses to Evansville and Bradley over the weekend.

Missouri State should be a great match for the Creighton Bluejays.  Both teams have similar records and both have fairly young teams.  This conference battle will only get better in the coming years.  Can you imagine what P'Allen Stinnett will do to the Bears as a Senior.  Stinnett is already averaging over 13 points a game in MVC play as a Freshman this year.

The Qwest Center and Creighton Bluejay fans can be proud that the Jays are ranked 13th in total attendance for Division 1 teams.  The Bluejays average over 15,000 fans a game at the Qwest Center and have sold out numerous games this season, including a sold out, raucous crowd against in-state rival Nebraska.

Bon Jovi Concert Tonight

One of the most celebrated rock musicians of our time will be performing at the Qwest Center tonight.  Bon Jovi, who has sold over 120 million albums worldwide, will be playing one of his famous live shows tonight in the Qwest Center Arena.

Bon Jovi kicked off their Lost Highway World Tour last month in New Jersey where they played 10 shows back to back.  After taking a trip oversees to Europe and Japan, the boys from Bon Jovi will begin their US leg of the tour in none other than the Qwest Center in Omaha.

Bon Jovi has performed over 2,500 concerts since their beginning in the 1980's.  And since the 80's the band has produced hit after hit continuing with their 2007 album Lost Highway.

Daughtry will be joining Bon Jovi as openers for the concert tonight at the Qwest Center.  Daughtry was one of the top artists last year and had 2007's most popular album with Daughtry.  To most people he is "that guy" from American Idol, but once you sit down and listen to what he has to offer, your mind will change.  Make sure to get to the Qwest Center early enough to see these guys rock.

Qwest Center In Middle of City Dispute

Oddly enough, the Qwest Center Omaha is at the center of attention in the city, but this time it's not because Bon Jovi, Matchbox Twenty or Bruce Springsteen are playing concerts at the Qwest Center this month.  The Qwest is in the middle of a city dispute regarding the possibility of putting in a new College World Series stadium in the Qwest Center parking lot.

The rumors are flying all around the city of Omaha, and the Omaha World Herald is reporting that David Sokol, who is the chairman of the MECA board (that runs the Qwest Center), has warned that if Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey is planning on building a new College World Series stadium on the Qwest Center parking lot, that he better be prepared to go to court over it.  MECA holds a lease to the Qwest Center for 99 years and does not like that the city of Omaha is even considering building on the land that they lease.  Mike Fahey, the Mayor, says that the land is owned by the city, and that they are allowed to expand on it.

Whoever is right and whoever is wrong has not been decided on yet regarding a new College World Series stadium; but the NCAA warned the Omaha mayor this week that by next week the city of Omaha should have a concrete plan for the new CWS stadium.

Linkin Park Play Great Kick Off Show

Linkin Park brought down the house at the Qwest Center yesterday with a high energy concert.  The guys from Linkin Park know how to get the crowd on their feet and that's exactly what they did.

Linkin Park kicked off their 19 city US tour at the Qwest Center in Omaha and more than 10,000 ticket holders got the chance to see one of the biggest rock bands of their generation play at the peak of their career.

With the help of a multi-level stage and a barrage of laser lights, Linkin Park gave the Qwest Center audience enough sensory inputs to keep them interested for the over hour and a half concert.  The over the top stage production reminded me of U2, who was one of the first big acts to play a concert at the Qwest Center.

Electronics and synthesizers where very predominant in the concert at the Qwest Center.  Linkin Park is one of the only mainstream rock groups that use a turntable and it was put to good use last night.  It no doubt complimented rapper Mike Shinoda's performance.

Linkin Park to Play Concert at Qwest Center Tonight

Mega-rock band Linkin Park will play one of their highly praised concerts at the Qwest Center Omaha tonight.  Linkin Park is one of the best selling modern rock bands performing today and helped to start the rap-rock genre of music that was pioneered in the early 2000's by the likes of Limp Bizkit and Korn.  Linkin Park will kick off their 19 city Minutes to Midnight US tour at the Qwest Center tonight with supporters Coheed and Cambria.

On the Minutes to Midnight tour the band will introduce some of the most interesting and creative concert innovations that I have ever heard.

First, Linkin Park will be "going green" this tour.  That means that on their tour bus and at concerts, everything that could emit waste is now converted to be environmentally friendly.  From the gas they use to the fliers they hand out, all of it is eco-friendly and recycled.  It costs Linkin Park more money to tour this way but the band has bigger things to worry about.

The second, and in my opinion the coolest, innovation that Linkin Park is trying is their digital souvenir package that you can order with your tickets to the Linkin Park concert.  The package allows ticket holders to access live mp3's of the Qwest Center concert immediately after the concert.  To combat bootlegging, Linkin Park professionally records the show and emails it to ticket holders after the concert.  That means that if you can get the ringing out of your ears right after the concert you can listen to it all over again when you arrive home.
