It was a tremendous performance by two of country music's heavyweights Friday when Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood took the stage in front of a sold-out crowd at the Qwest Center.
The pair served as co-headliners on the "Love, Pain And The Whole Crazy Carnival Ride" tour, and both artists played tremendous sets that kept the crowd entertained throughout the night.
Underwood took the stage first and utilized numerous costume changes while performing some of her best songs during a 70-minute set. During "I Know You Won't," the Checotah, Okla., native began the song wearing a full-length gown, only to rip off the dress to continue in a bright miniskirt.
Songs like "Jesus Take The Wheel," "All-American Girl" and "Get Out Of This Town" were crowd favorites, and she gave stirring performances of "Jesus Take The Wheel" and "Don't Forget To Remember Me." She surprised fans during her encore, belting out a solid version of the Guns 'N Roses classic "Paradise City" before closing with the crowd favorite, "Before He Cheats."
There was a lengthy delay while the stage was readied for Urban's performance, and some fans evidently became impatient with the wait and left before the Australian native took the stage in black jeans and T-shirt.
Once he hit the stage, though, he had the crowd eating out of the palms of his hands. His exciting, energetic start to the show got the crowd on its feet and singing from start to finish. During one of his interactions with the crowd, he autographed an acoustic guitar he used and gave it to a woman in the audience.
If that wasn't enough, he got the crowd involved in an electronic version of the wave, using cell phones to send a wave across the arena that he videotaped from the stage.
Urban performed many of his best songs, including "Stupid Boy," "I Told You So" and an instrumental version of "Used To The Pain" with Urban playing mandolin. He and his band performed some songs acoustically from the front of the catwalk, giving the fans in the back a better view of the performance.
All in all, both Underwood and Urban gave their fans a tremendous performance, one that was well worth the price of admission.
Next on the agenda at Qwest Center is the legendary Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. "The Boss" will hit the stage Friday, March 14, and you can get tickets to the show now at Ticket Express -- where no event is ever sold out.
