One of the top rock bands of the 1980's will invade Omaha on Aug. 17 when Def Leppard comes to rock the Qwest Center.
The five-man band from Sheffield, England rose to prominence during the advent of "hair metal" with their 1983 classic album, "Pyromania." Songs like "Rock of Ages" and "Photograph" got tons of play on the radio and MTV, making them instant superstars.
Even the tragic car crash that caused drummer Rick Allen to lose his arm could not stop this band's rise to the top of the rock hierarchy. Their 1987 release, "Hysteria" became one of the biggest-selling albums of the decade and spawned no fewer than seven top 40 hits, an incredible number for any album. "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Love Bites" and "Armageddon It" were among the super hits coming from that album.
The band faced tragedy again when guitarist Steve Clark died of a drug overdose in the early 1990's but the band carried on and continued putting out some great music. They still tour and record 20 years later and have recently released a new album, "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" which includes a rather unusual duet with country superstar Tim McGraw on the song "Nine Lives."
The band is touring with Billy Idol, another big chart-topper from the 1980's who rose to fame with songs like "Rebel Yell," "White Wedding" and the classic remake of "Mony Mony." It should be an awesome show, and you can get tickets to see Def Leppard in concert now at Ticket Express -- where no event is ever sold out.
